Career Hiring & Signing Day – A Bold New Chapter Starts in 2026 [1]
This spring in Brazoria County, 252 students applied for a career signing day event. These were young people who had completed training, earned industry-recognized credentials, and were ready to work.
But only 104 were placed with employers.
That means 148 construction-interested, career-ready students walked away empty-handed—not because of lack of talent or drive, but because the opportunity didn’t meet the need.
That is a missed opportunity we simply cannot afford to repeat.
In construction, where skilled labor shortages affect everything from schedules to safety, every ready worker counts. Gaps like this can be erased when the Greater Houston area joins forces—when we align our efforts across schools, companies, and communities to build brighter futures and a stronger economy.
Career Hiring & Signing Day – Launching Spring 2026
This new C3 initiative will connect students directly with employers and celebrate construction career commitments with the same energy and excitement seen at athletic or academic signings.
For Students:
High school seniors and recent graduates will be invited to apply for the event. Once reviewed and accepted by our selection committee, students will use SignUpGenius to schedule up to four 10-minute interviews with participating construction companies.
For Employers:
Contractors and specialty trade companies will register to attend, submit a list of open entry-level or apprenticeship-track positions, and commit to a full day of 10-minute interviews. Companies are encouraged to make on-the-spot job offers to students ready to work.
Signing Day Celebration:
Students who accept offers will be recognized at our first-ever Signing Day in early May 2026, featuring:
- A graduation-style keynote speaker
- Presentation of awards and scholarships
- “Signing moments” with company swag, photos, and fanfare
- A packed room of parents, teachers, and industry leaders celebrating together
Join Us in Making This Day Happen!
We believe this is more than a hiring event—it’s a movement to honor skilled trades, elevate student success, and fill real jobs with real talent.
If you’re passionate about this work and want to play a role in shaping it, I invite you to join our planning committee. We need voices and hands to support logistics, student recruitment, employer engagement, and event execution.
